Implementation of the Rotterdam Convention in Botswana

Online, 20 June 2024 and from 20 August to 21 August 2024

Highlights: The Rotterdam Convention (RC) on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure (PIC) for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade is a legally binding multilateral environmental agreement, which entered into force in 2004. Botswana requested the support of the BRS Secretariat in the context of a national stakeholder workshop on the Rotterdam Convention. The workshop consisted of two segments, one focusing on pesticides, the other focusing on industrial chemicals.

Meeting objectives: To promote the understanding of national stakeholders of the Rotterdam Convention and to strengthen capacity to implement the Convention, including to transmit import responses, to submit notifications of final regulatory action, and to submit proposals for severely hazardous pesticide formulations.

Target audience: Representatives of relevant government entities, the private sector, academia, and civil society.
