In May 2017, the Secretariat of the Rotterdam Convention has received two proposals for a severely hazardous pesticide formulation containing lambda-cyhalothrin.
According to paragraph 2 of Article 6 of the Convention, the Secretariat shall, as soon as possible and in any event no later than six months after receipt, verify whether the proposal contains the information required by Part 1 of Annex IV of the Convention. Considering that the proposal contained the information required, the Secretariat forwarded to all Parties a summary of the information received. This summary was included in Appendix II of PIC Circular XLV, issued in June 2017.
According to paragraph 3 of Article 6, the Secretariat shall collect additional information as set out in Part 2 of Annex IV of the Convention regarding the above mentioned proposal.
Designated National Authorities are kindly requested to collect any information they may have related to the information listed in Part 2 of Annex IV of the Rotterdam Convention and provide it to the Secretariat by 17 July 2017.
The Secretariat will forward the information received along with the submitted proposal to the 13th meeting of the Chemical Review Committee, scheduled to be held in October 2017, for the Committee’s consideration. The working language of the Committee is English, so information in English, or a focused summary in English of the information provided, would facilitate the work of the Committee.
